The lawsuit was filed by Anissa K. L., a woman from Texas who was implanted with the Option™ ELITE Retrievable Inferior Vena Cava Filter (“IVC Filter”) manufactured by Argon Medical Devices Inc. and Rex Medical, L.P.
The IVC Filter was implanted in her vein to catch blood clots and prevent a pulmonary embolism on March 10, 2011 at St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center in Round Rock, Texas, by Dr. Ravi Jay Jhaveri.
The plaintiff underwent an attempted retrieval on April 17, 2012. The IVC Filter was not successfully removed.
She is seeking compensation for injuries related to IVC Filter embedment, tilt, migration, perforation, and multiple retrieval attempts.
Rex Medical and Argon Medical Devices are accused of negligence for selling a defective medical device and failing to warn about risks.
The lawsuit was filed on March 30, 2018 in the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania — Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas (Trial Division / Civil Section) — Case ID: 180400138.
There are now over 7,000 other IVC filter lawsuits pending against Rex Medical, Cook Medical, B. Braun, C.R. Bard, and other manufacturers in state and federal courtrooms nationwide.
